A Burger King restaurant in Beijing is not a bad place to
celebrate an 18th wedding anniversary, right? I can think of worse places!
But our real celebration took place last month in Oxnard, CA,
where we spent a few days away, just the two of us. I especially enjoyed the time
we spent at Panera bread, sipping iced tea (for me) and Coke Zero (for him),
discussing our vision for the next year of our lives together.
Early in our marriage Rodney established this routine for us
and we do it every year. The time of year, location and methods sometimes change, but
the results are essentially the same. We end up with a written list of
categories (i.e. marriage, parenting, weekly schedule, studies, relationships …)
with several concrete action items (yes, I'm married to a former engineer) for each category (i.e. contact the Li
family and make dinner plans; reserve Tuesday nights for date night…). After we talk and plan, we pray through each
item together, asking the Lord to direct our steps. And so, we head into the next year with purpose!
This is one of several traditions that we established within
our first couple years of marriage, and one of the many reasons I’m thankful to
be life partners with this thoughtful, purposeful hunk!

Congratulations dear A's! This was such a sweet post -- I praise G for sustaining your marriage for 18 years! Love the photos btw. Austin Duncan just finished a mini-series on dating at Crossroads and today we had a panel of older wise couples onstage sharing about their love story, marriage, life experiences. It was so helpful! Btw, I'm pr-ying about joining AC longterm! Maybe our paths will cross again very soon :) Waiting for Father to open doors while being faithful to His flock here, please keep me in your prayers!
ReplyDeleteThat's so exciting, Frances! Will be lifting you up as you contemplate this decision.
