School started for me last week. I'm enjoying my classes and teachers very much. My fellow students are from a fun variety of countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Korea (via Canada), Great Britain, Indonesia and the US! This diversity leads to many interesting discussions during class time. One day, our teacher was trying to remember the name of an animal in English. She drew a curvy line on the board to represent it. All I could think of was "snake," but that wasn't what she was going for. The Russian student figured it out, but he didn't know the name in English either, so he said to me, "You know, the horse in the desert with the two hills." Can you guess his meaning?
I leave early for school to beat the rush, so I eat breakfast out. These steamed pork buns are delicious and only cost $1 for 10.
Amy and I also are back to the homeschool co-op. I'm helping out with the second graders this session. Amy has a photography class and a tennis class.

2nd grade Water Science--Here we are learning about surface tension.
It rained hard on our first day of co-op. I was trying to take a photo of all the colorful umbrellas, but accidentally took a selfie instead.
My son says this is always the expression I have when I'm trying to figure out my phone.
My daughter thought the resulting photo was very artistic...

Some of you may remember previous posts about our enthusiastic little friend, Lenny. She also started school last week, but this time in America! She and her mom recently moved to Fontana, CA.
Good-bye lunch with Lenny and her mom, Lucy.
I had the privilege of staying with my friend's little boy one afternoon when she went to the hospital to deliver their second son. In the photo below, little Caleb was worried about his mom while she was having a contraction. He kept saying, "Stand up! Stand up!"
It's okay, buddy, Mommy's just "exercising"!
And here is the new little brother, Elijah! I enjoyed getting to hold him for a little while!
Overall the weather for this back-to-school season has been really lovely, today included. The days are still warm, mid 70's to low 80's, and the evenings are chilly. It really feels like fall here, unlike the weather in Southern California lately, or so I've heard!
(Oh, and if you didn't figure it out, the horse in the desert with two hills is a camel!)
Really enjoyed your post, G! :) Took a little break from my spi-rit-ual hw, which happens to be a ton of reading (like over 200 pages!) Life's been pretty face paced since after the STM: I'm relying on His grace daily as I balance full-time work, m1n1stry (I'm now serving on staff at USC GOC), and continuing to walk faithfully with Him. I'm also taking Biblical Counseling LOGOS class at GCC to better equip myself for M work (and it's useful for life in general) so really learning discipline and good time management.
ReplyDeleteWishing I could return to BJ sometime to hang with you and your family! =)
P.S. I love the accidental selfie. Priceless!
