I learned a new word today, “加湿器.”
The first character means “to add or to increase,” the second one means “moisture,”
and the third character stands for “vessel.” When you put them all together you
get an “increase moisture vessel.” See if you can figure out the meaning of
this word and the ones below.
1.
加湿器- “increase moisture vessel”
2.
电吹风-“electric
blow wind”
3.
吸尘器- “suck dust vessel”
4.
电脑- “electric brain”
Answers: 1. Humidifier;
2. Hair dryer; 3. Vacuum cleaner; 4. Computer
Easy, right?
Okay, so it’s not exactly easy, but the more characters I
learn, the more words like the ones above I can start to figure out!
Excuse me, my Chinese is not good!
I posted this music video last year, but maybe you missed it:
After over a year of studying Chinese, it still resonates with me!
There is a word for dumplings that sounds similar to the word for sleep.
At the beginning of the video, the guy at the food counter says,
“Hello, American! American! Hello!”
“Hello, I’m British.”
“Oh! You're British? I’m very sorry. What can I get for you?”
“I want to sleep.”
“Are you tired? You want to sleep?”
“No, I’m hungry. I want to EAT sleep.”
“Oh, you want to eat dumplings! You can also sleep here if you want!”
“Excuse me, my Chinese is not good.”
"It doesn't matter. Keep working on it!"
