Our kitchen counter started out with a nasty crack which, in spite of being filled with caulking (a common solution to construction problems here), has continued to grow from its original size. Today our landlady came by with a guy to measure for replacement counter tops. At first they were wanting to just cut out and replace the bad section only. I was not keen on this idea, because then we would just be left with two
new cracks where the seams would be. The bad section has grown so much, however, that they decided to replace the whole thing with a new, brighter white and will even replace the other two sections in the kitchen to match.
We also asked them to raise the level of the counter by a couple of inches. We were pretty surprised that they agreed to that, and it will make kitchen work much more comfortable, especially for the tall people in the family (i.e. everyone but me).

We are looking forward to this improvement!
More on window washing...
This is what I envisioned would happen to our apartment building every so often. I wonder if these guys get hazard pay? No, probably not.
I get the willies just looking at that photo of the window-washer guys! Be sure and post photos of your new counter-tops, shorty. =) XO
